Following a bench trial in a suit brought against a national retail fulfillment company client's former employee, the Cook County Circuit Court entered judgment against the former employee. The former employee, who had forfeited a sign-on bonus by not reporting for work on his first scheduled day of employment, later claimed that the company's bonus policy violated the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act. The court held that the employee's "at will" employment status precluded him from recovery.
