  • WBS Obtains Guardianship Transfer to FL Averts Potential 1.7MM+ Estate Tax Liability

    Representing the Plenary Guardian of the Estate (“GOE”) of a disabled real estate investor (“Ward”) whose trusts hold assets in excess of $25 million, Mitch Bryan and Spencer Griffin negotiated terms to settle litigation against the GOE and the successor trustee that included transferring the guardianship case to Florida. The transfer, which the court-appointed Guardian ad litem (“GAL”) had opposed for years, averts 1.7MM+ potential estate tax liability, halted the GAL’s and the Ward’s own attorney’s efforts to remove the successor trustee, and creates the safest personal care and medical environment for the Ward.

  • WBS Successfully Settles Bond Security Suit

    After more than a year of litigation, on behalf of WBS national mortgage loan originator client in liquidation, Joel Goldblatt, Mitch Bryan and Spencer Griffin negotiated settlement for a minimal fraction of the client’s alleged liability under a $10 million regulatory bond indemnity agreement. Instrumental to settlement, WBS staved-off the plaintiff insurance company/surety’s preliminary injunction motion seeking to compel a $650,000 cash deposit to protect the insurer from potential bond claims.
