Mr. Cohen is of counsel to the firm with over 40 years of experience. His principal areas of practice are estate planning, corporate and real estate law.
Mr. Cohen has engaged in estate planning his entire career. He has participated in seminars and lectured before groups of attorneys, accountants and insurance professionals on various estate planning topics. He has served on the faculty of Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he taught estate planning and federal estate and gift taxes. He was co-author of “Illinois Advanced Estate Planning” published by Professional Education Systems, Inc.
Mr. Cohen also has significant experience representing clients in corporate acquisitions and divestitures. He has worked with startups in capital formation and structuring, and with lenders in documenting secured and unsecured loans. He has significant tax experience, representing individuals and corporations in all aspects of business and tax planning.
Mr. Cohen is a member of the American Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association where he served on the Executive Committee on Federal Taxation. He is currently a member of the Chicago Estate Planning Counsel and has coordinated and participated in the ICLE/ABA Consortium on Lawyering Skills.
Mr. Cohen has been representing clients internationally for the last twenty years. He served as Vice- President of the Association of Commercial Lawyers, an international association of law firms handling multi-jurisdictional business transactions. He subsequently was a member of Lawyers Associated Worldwide, another international association where he served on its Executive Committee for several years.
Mr. Cohen graduated from the University of Michigan (B.A.,1966) and Northwestern University School of Law (J.D.,1969). He was admitted to practice in Illinois in 1969, and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, 1969
